Sometsuke Rabbit & Moon Incense Holder

Elegant, petite, and ideal for burning incense in a small space, the Sometsuke (Blue & White ware) Rabbit & Moon incense holder is perfect for harvest moon celebrations or just moon gazing on your own. Repurposed from a chopstick rest, the shallow bowl makes a perfect economical receptacle for catching incense ash.

White rabbits and the moon represent the story of the Buddha before he was incarnated as a man, his spirit was born as a hare. Under the moon, rabbit came upon a hungry man begging for food. Having nothing to give him, the rabbit threw himself upon the man's cooking fire so that he would not go hungry. Seeing this selfless act, the man revealed that he was a god, and saved the hare from the fire. He then took the hare to live upon the moon so that the hare's selflessness could be seen by the entire world for all eternity.
