Baieido Tobiume Incense

Displaying a most exquisite and subtle fragrance, Tobiume means "flying plum tree". This incense is an innovative blend of Agarwood, Sandalwood, Clove and Cinnamon that pays honor to the traditional incense blends of Imperial Courts of old. Absolutely heavenly!

Named for a famous plum tree in Dazaifu shrine, this Shinto shrine was built over the grave of poet Sugawara no Michizane to appease his spirit. It is said that when Sugawara no Michizane was cast out of the court in Kyoto, one plum tree missed him so much that it uprooted itself and flew to where he was. Today it is said that this very tree grows beside the main shrine and is the first to bloom each year.
